The World We Found

The World We FoundThe World We Found by Thrity Umrigar
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book. Armaiti has called from America to request that her 3 college friends come to see her as she has a brain tumor and wants to see them again before she dies. Umrigar draws the reader in by using each of the 4 women's perspective as well as the 2 husband's to explore what has happened in their lives as their paths diverged and they grew older.

This book resonated with me partly because I too was in college listening to the songs that are referred to throughout the book and I didn't realize people in India were also listening and hoping to change the status quo. 'Those Were the Days, My Friend,'as sung by Mary Hopkins seems to reprise over and over as the four major characters, friends from college, remember how close they had been then and where their lives are in the present. I highly recommend this book and if you are not familiar with the songs find them on YouTube and listen.
